I Am. You Are. We Can. refers to the semester-long exploration into the life of photographs students undertook over the course of the fall of 2016. Through discussions, gallery visits and their own photography practices, students investigated the contexts which give photographs meaning, defined a sense of self, explored perceptions of others, and inspired collaborative action toward common goals through the photographic image.
Teen arts education is central to the ICA, and the Digital Photography program is just one of many teen arts programs offered at the museum. The ICA’s award-winning teen program has grown exponentially in the past decade, now serving approximately 7,000 area youths annually, We believe that robust arts education—including learning by doing—is critical to building future artists, audiences, and engaged citizens, and we aim especially to create a more equitable education for urban youths.
